Recovery Takes Time, Here Are Ways To Help Yourself

Contributed Post

People often underestimate how long it takes to truly recover from the traumatic things in our life. It might be the loss of a partner or a pet. It could be that you have been in an accident and while you’re waiting for this car accident lawyer to fight your case, you are struggling at home. Sometimes it is not just the physical element that you will need to work on. But, there are a few things that you can do in the home and garden to help you relieve stress and slowly build up confidence and strength in muscles groups.

Gardening

Gardening in any form is great for slowly working out different muscle groups. You don’t have to do any of the heavy diggings, you can simply pull up weeds, trim hedges and plant bulbs at your own pace. Gardening has great benefit mentally too. It can help relieve stress over a period of months and gives gratification continuously. If you find you aren’t as able to get out and about as you once were the garden provides a safe space for you to take in some fresh air. It is a very gentle form of exercise.

Yoga

Unlike gardening, this is focused more on the body and a little less on the mind. However, both will get a great benefit. The slow stretching of the muscles and realigning of the spine can provide significant relief. If you have previously been injured yoga can be your path to get back to physical fitness. Yoga is also very focused on breathing, being mindful and calm – perfect for those of us who have trouble tackling our stressors when they begin to get the best of us. Doing yoga gives you the opportunity to get out and take a class, or you might choose to do it in the comfort of your own home. Either way, you won’t need much more than a stretchy pair of pants and some time.

Write

Writing can help us process many things. From what happened in the lead up to an accident, to how we feel about the weather today. Giving yourself the space to explore those emotions is a really powerful tool on the road to recovery. You might choose to add to this daily, or you might decide to add to it when you have something on your mind. Whichever you decide to do, you should try always to add a note about what you are grateful for.

Smell

Not everyone will subscribe to this one but burning different scents in the form of a candle, or oils may help relieve tensions. If you find your muscles are tight, or that you are having trouble relaxing, then you might like to consider burning some of the following smells in your home:

  • Lavender
  • Bergamot
  • Orange Blossom
  • Jasmine

This practice is called aromatherapy and helps millions of people daily.

Aside from those, you can also add in some meditation or use an app to play rain sounds in the evening. This will help you get a better nights rest as you drift off.
