Listen to Soundtracks for Horror Films, a film score by yours truly – Eric’s Music

I’ve been lax in giving the world the music I’ve been creating over the last year or two, especially since there has been some stuff I’m proud of that exists in silence, so here is a film score composed by yours truly: Soundtracks for Horror Films: Music Inspired by the Wash. Except there is no movie of The Wash. Therefore there can’t be a soundtrack for it. Feel free to consider this collection of music anyway. The Wash is in part what was in my head as I composed it, after all. Just skip to the video and download link below if all you want is the music! Otherwise, some explanation is required. This is soundtrack music inspired in part by a horror novel written…

A Month of Kurosawa: The Most Beautiful (1944)

To celebrate the upcoming release of my book, Akira Kurosawa: A Viewer’s Guide, due out Dec. 15 from Rowman & Littlefield — preorder here! — I’ll be doing capsule reviews all month covering every single Kurosawa film and posting (very) brief excerpts. These will be short impressions and recommendations, nothing more. For a full, detailed analysis of each, grab the book! The Most Beautiful (1944) The 2nd film by Akira Kurosawa was an unlikely one, given his anti-authoritarian nature: a WWII propaganda film focused on a group of women working in a wartime factory. Here, the young women face illness, crushing deadlines, and more, but through their indomitable spirit (and with the help of a caring leader) they come to find joy in giving themselves…

Unplugged 3: Insanely excited about the next two m2 projects, so that’s great

Sat down for my first purposeful recording session in a long while a few weeks ago. Recorded for four or five hours straight, just a mic in a room (an attic, actually) a few feet in front of my amp. Really cold up there. My fingers were numb. Laid down ten tracks of material, lots of layered guitar work weaving in and out of one another rather than the dense sound assault I’ve done in recent years. Tried a new approach to playing and just attempted various iterations on it. The interplay of the guitars excited me. Had about an hour and a half of material when it was wrapped up. Got super focused on working that material over the other day and started mixing….

Some video peeks at the ’90s podcast I do with Nerd Out With Me

I’m sure somewhere along the line I’ve mentioned that I do a weekly podcast with Tig Carson as part of the whole Nerd Out With Me thing. It’s fun. We go week-to-week talking about what was going on in specific months in the 1990s. Music, movies, games, news & current events, that sort of thing. You can check out the ’90s cast podcast <—here (lots of ways to subscribe, get it to your phone, download them, or stream them right from the site), or check out some abbreviated video versions below to get a taste for what we do. Hope you enjoy – and if you dig what we do, support us on Patreon!

m2 – a burning orange sun you can’t forget

I recorded this in 2013 and 2014 right after I recorded Falling Back Into it, but I only pulled it together in 2016, and completely neglected to post it online until now. Think I just wasn’t sure about this one. I wanted to produce a positive m2 record, one that was somehow uplifting in its sprawling drones, and this didn’t fit the bill. Then life changed and I forgot to acknowledge it. But now it’s posted. This is the most recent collection of m2 music, though it’s NOT the latest m2 music. New material should be coming shortly, with a lot to follow in 2018. I have new material in the works that pushed the boundaries of what I’ve considered m2, plus a collection of…
