“It’s Nice to Eat the King” is my first new music recording in a year

Recording music was an escape for me. My focus on big, layered sonics, ambiance and sometimes even downright noise came in no small part because I can get lost in all that sound. It’s meditative. Relaxing. Soothing despite the noise. But for some reason, the pandemic has coincided with the longest musical dry spell I’ve experienced in years. Aside from some digital music created last year for a project I will post about another time, I haven’t created anything. Nothing at all. Hell, I went nearly a year without even picking up the guitar, much less writing something on it. Until last night. That’s when a sonic jam accidentally spilled out while testing some equipment. And damn, it felt good to create again. It’s a…

Unplugged 3: Insanely excited about the next two m2 projects, so that’s great

Sat down for my first purposeful recording session in a long while a few weeks ago. Recorded for four or five hours straight, just a mic in a room (an attic, actually) a few feet in front of my amp. Really cold up there. My fingers were numb. Laid down ten tracks of material, lots of layered guitar work weaving in and out of one another rather than the dense sound assault I’ve done in recent years. Tried a new approach to playing and just attempted various iterations on it. The interplay of the guitars excited me. Had about an hour and a half of material when it was wrapped up. Got super focused on working that material over the other day and started mixing….

m2 – we finally made it (2014)

I have a big backlog of music right now. Just haven’t had the time or inspiration or whatever to “release” it. Not because I don’t feel like it’s worthy. Hell, I’ve been dying to get some of this out there! I’ve just had stuff going on. Managed to muster up the energy for one here, though. This one is unofficially dedicated to my buddy Cary, a great writer you haven’t heard of yet but will soon enough. Recorded this by accident, listened, liked, refined, and the end result is the longest single piece I’ve ever done. For me, at least, it’s a little bit of audio bliss. Enjoy.   m2 we finally made it 1) We Finally Made It (109:29) all songs (c) Eric San…

MUSIC: Some new drones & tones by Eric

Last week I wrapped up my latest collection of guitar soundscapes, tones and drones. Part of my m2 project, these are long instrumental pieces made up entirely of droning guitar sounds. Sometimes they’re soothing, sometimes they’re abrasive. It’s not for everyone. I’ll be adding it to my music archive blog soon, but for those who enjoy this sort of thing you can give these swirls of sound a listen here. Thanks for listening. m2 The Endless Twelve 1) Sunday Bliss Can’t Lift, Can Only Pretend (7:05) 2) Falling Back Into It (10:38) 3) Etched On Me Is A Waiting Demon (7:38) 4) The Endless Twelve (24:54) 5) Sobriety (5:02)

Eric does soundtrack music for Weird Tales

Late last year, Stephen Segal, Editorial & creative director at the legendary Weird Tales, asked me to contribute some soundtrack music for a series of brief promotional videos he had in the works. The second of those videos (and first featuring my music) is now online. Check it out: The track is called “Blasphemous Horrors”. If you found those creepy sounds interesting, you can surf right over here and download all 13 one-minute compositions I did for Weird Tales. I think you’ll find them jarring, disturbing, and just this side of cool.
