Tearing your readers apart

Even as I type this people are reading my first book. And the fact is, not everyone will like it. That’s okay. It’s not a big deal. (Besides, I can always blame Jim for the parts people don’t like, right Jim? Right?) As I continue to work and write, and as people continue to read what I’ve written, I hope I don’t fall prey to launching into defensive rants against my readers. It seems sort of counter-productive, no? Not only are you not changing anyone’s mind, you’re just coming across like a jerk. It would be like a best-selling author lashing out against Amazon reviewers. Why do this? Please, Eric, never do this. (That’s me talking to myself.)

Halo Wars

As mentioned in a previous post, I recently had the chance to do some video game reviews for Havoc PC. The last of my initial three reviews is live. Take a look if you’re so inclined. Tomb Raider: Underworld

The second of my video game reviews for Havoc PC has gone live. Check out this preview; link to the full at the bottom: Tomb Raider: Underworld To say that Tomb Raider has been the most consistently mediocre long-running franchise in video gaming history would certainly be an overstatement, though many critics would tell you exactly that. The first game dropped in 1996, and eight unchanging games have followed since. New games in the series are routinely criticized for being more of the same, which is true enough, but “the same” is pretty fun. My video game reviews have gone live

Not too long ago, I was asked to do some video game reviews for Havoc PC. Being the video game-loving writer that I am, naturally I said yes. Today I discovered that they’ve gone live. Here’s a preview of the first of three. I’ll post the others over the next few days: Prince of Persia Born on the PC, the Prince of Persia series first grew to popularity with punishing difficulty and maddeningly frustrating levels. After spawning some excellent imitators (Out of This World, Flashback), Prince of Persia: Sands of Time reinvented the franchise, earning raves for its precision gameplay and inventive levels. Graphic novels, blogging, and me

I don’t know why, but I started a new blog. I’ll be reviewing graphic novels. I don’t know why. Because it seemed like something to do, I guess. As if I don’t have enough to do … And as if the world needs one more dope offering up his opinions into the great sea of opinions that is the Internet … Even worse, I’m thinking of doing two more, a blog devoted to talking about music, and another in which I’ll write serial fiction on the web. I am an idiot. Ahhh, well. What’s done is done.
