The writer who doesn’t blog

I’m a writer. I have books and stuff. My latest, about how to be a good groom, came out yesterday. But despite being a writer and having to do all that comes with the job description, I do a poor job of blogging on a regular basis. All the modern wisdom about what it takes to make it as a writer in today’s world says I’m going about this all wrong. You’ve got to build an audience, they say. You have to keep your name out there. You have to connect with people. You have to utilize the web — blogs, social media, discussion forums, etc. — to establish a readership and contacts and all the rest. It’s a vital part of enjoying long-term success….

Guess I’m supposed to be blogging about stuff

Blogs are like great weights affixed to your neck, or rather, like a 200-pound sets of car keys. You don’t want to carry the damn things around, but the car won’t start without them. It’s been a while since I’ve blogged here. Probably should have stayed current. Should have been updating all along. Could have talked about this project or that, or merely talked about James Gandolfini passing away and why Bruce Springsteen is probably better than I give him credit for and why the Akira manga is crazy good. No more beer on this blog

I’ve made a few posts about beer on this blog. I won’t be doing that any more. I didn’t begin this blog to talk about random bullshit, I began it to talk primarily about my latest projects, whether writing, music, or otherwise. But I’m not going to not talk about beer. At the moment I feel like writing about the subject. That’s why I started a new blog, Celebrating the Suds, which will be devoted entirely to beer. So give it a look. Subscribe. Follow it on Facebook. Yada yada yada. Cheers.

My blog sucks

After all, it’s not that I’m incapable of dazzling you with insightful commentary about all manner of things, from the Tantric underpinnings of the television show Lost to the undisputed fact that pineapple is a delicious pizza topping, it’s that I’m unwilling of dazzling you with insightful commentary about all manner of things, from the Tantric underpinnings of the television show Lost to the undisputed fact that pineapple is a delicious pizza topping. Yeah, that’s the ticket. Also, the truth is I’m just very busy right now. Or trying to be, at least. Hell, even…

Graphic novels, blogging, and me

I don’t know why, but I started a new blog. I’ll be reviewing graphic novels. I don’t know why. Because it seemed like something to do, I guess. As if I don’t have enough to do … And as if the world needs one more dope offering up his opinions into the great sea of opinions that is the Internet … Even worse, I’m thinking of doing two more, a blog devoted to talking about music, and another in which I’ll write serial fiction on the web. I am an idiot. Ahhh, well. What’s done is done.
