“Shackles” – an anthology preview

The following is a rough layout for a story in my upcoming comic anthology. The story is called “Shackles” and it is set in London circa 1778. The art is incomplete, obviously, but gives you a sense for what we’re doing. Click here for a version large enough to read. We took an interesting approach on this one. I penned a conversation and provided the text to independent comic creator and musician Stanley Lieber, creator of Massive Fictions, among others. (Some of you might recall that I remixed some of his music.) No stage direction, no art direction, just some text based on a talk he and I had about the situation and themes we’d be dealing with. Stanley then took that conversation and gave…

Hey, I do others blogs, too

Just a reminder, I waste my time (and yours) with a few others blogs. At Taft is Reading I read and review comics and graphic novels, and at Shoegaze99 Music I archive my home-recorded music (which is also available on my website). I’ve recently made posts about the epic manga Akira and Alan Moore’s (writer of Watchmen) writing on Swamp Thing, as well as some fuzzy, lo-fi tunes done for an elaborate joke. You can follow these blogs on Facebook (and it would be awesome if you do). You can follow Taft Is Reading by joining my blog network at this link, you can get updates in Shoegaze99 Music at this link, and as always, the blog you’re reading right now can be followed at…

Eric sings for you

A week or so I started another blog meant to be nothing more than an archive of my music. (Follow it on Facebook here.) Last night I posted an album I recorded three years ago. An album with (gasp!) singing. I am a terrible singer. I really ought not try to sing. But here is the album, anyway: X-Sweet One Last Goodbye 1) The New X-Sweet (0:37) 2) Goodbye, My Friend (4:15) 3) Roll It Over (2:53) 4) Purple Rose (2:40) 5) Blue Moon (3:02) 6) Breaking (4:57) 7) Rowhouses (0:50) 8) The Bottom of Things (2:09) 9) Martha Dear (4:35) 10) Holy Roller (4:07) 11) Oh Sister (5:38) 12) One Last Goodbye (1:32) All songs (c) Eric San Juan 2006. Free to distribute, just…

Graphic novels, blogging, and me

I don’t know why, but I started a new blog. I’ll be reviewing graphic novels. I don’t know why. Because it seemed like something to do, I guess. As if I don’t have enough to do … And as if the world needs one more dope offering up his opinions into the great sea of opinions that is the Internet … Even worse, I’m thinking of doing two more, a blog devoted to talking about music, and another in which I’ll write serial fiction on the web. I am an idiot. Ahhh, well. What’s done is done.
