Last year, I posted about the Top 5 Christmas Songs of All Time, and it’s a perfect list. There is no arguing with it.
This year, I’m not going to do that. Instead, I’m just going to give you 5 cool Christmas songs to check out, especially if you aren’t one of those awful people who like to listen to Christmas music all the time (and if you are, what is wrong with you and can you have it removed?).
So here. Do this one thing: Listen, and have a nice day thing event:
5) Run DMC – Christmas in Hollis
Combination gimmick and genuine Christmas storytelling goodness from the part of town Christmas songs don’t usually talk about, do not deny the awesome. Santa will be mad if you do:
4) Squirrel Nut Zippers – Santa Claus is Smoking Reefer
Remember when swing was the hipster thing? When suddenly everyone was taking dancing lessons and wearing retro clothing? A lot of bad came out of that brief trend (Cherry Poppin’ Daddies, frumpy dresses), but one shining light was the Squirrel Nut Zippers, who were real deal awesome rather than imitator awesome. Do check out the solo stuff from SNZ leader James Mathus, especially the shockingly amazing album Plays Songs for Rosetta, which is the best, the best, the best (of you). In the meantime, enjoy this Xmas fun:
3) Bootsy Spankins – Mele Kalikimaka
I’m a touch biased, since Bootsy is a friend of mine, but I think the guy has a terrific voice, and this is a fun little Christmas rendition worth hearing. Also, check out his Christmas album:
2) Miles Davis – Blue Xmas (To Whom it May Concern)
I don’t know whether or not you enjoy Miles Davis, but I do know that I judge you whether or not you do. More importantly, sometimes during the holidays you just need shit to CHILL and RELAX. This is perfect for that:
1) Pantera – Walk
Have a holly jolly Christmas with this upbeat, fun Christmas jingle for the whole family:
Merry day merry day having people with days and merriness. Yup.
