We all need goals in life, and we all have benchmarks to aim for, and when you are working for yourself, a lot of these goals can be achieved. But what happens when you’ve achieved all your career goals? Is there any way to get further up the ladder? Or is there anything else that can be done, or do you decide to sit back and be complacent with your achievements?
Move Sideways, Not Upwards
Once you have climbed to the top of your own career ladder, the temptation is to stay in your ivory tower. But instead, if you’ve worked so hard at getting to this position, the sheer amount of grit and determination you have put into this feels somewhat wasted now. So the solution is to start a brand new challenge, and if you’ve worked at your own business in a specific niche, you might find it’s time to move to a different niche, one where you can learn everything from scratch. Look at the CEO Youi had up until recently, he moved from Australia to South Africa to take up a new position with a different insurance company. And, taking on a new challenge, can mean moving to a different part of the world completely. So, think about exactly what consists of a challenge to you. In moving sideways, in some ways, you will be starting from the bottom, in the fact that you have to learn everything from scratch.
Learn To Expand
Lots of entrepreneurs and self-made moguls look at what they’ve achieved and start to increase the scope. In addition to this, instead of just setting a new and bigger goal, you may think about extending the goal posts that little bit further in your current remit. They are both interchangeable in many ways, but in moving the goalposts you are expanding your current successes, and if you set a new goal, you are adding to your achievements.
Start To Help Others
This is a very common approach for people who have achieved all of their goals in life. If you feel that you’ve hit the point where there’s nothing else you can do in life for yourself, start to help others. Start a charity, volunteer, and do whatever you can that shifts the perspective from what you can achieve to what you can help others achieve. Look into How to start a 501(c)(3) with the help of professional advisors to maximize your tax benefits and make sure that your money goes as far as possible. Not only is this venture interesting and new, but you will help many people.
Quit While You’re Ahead
Not to sound defeatist, but if you’ve achieved everything that you could possibly want to achieve, and you can live a life of luxury, then why don’t you? Especially if you slaved and toiled for 30 years to get to this point, you may realize how exhausted you are in some respects. In which case, a quiet retreat to a sandy paradise may be just what the doctor ordered!
