Okay, I’ve got to link to this week’s episode of the Year of Hitchcock podcast, if only because I cracked myself up while editing it. The faux German shtick in the first few minutes of the Lifeboat episode were a bit of unexpected stupidity that had me howling when I listened to it a few weeks after recording. I had completely forgotten I did that. Moments like this are the reason why we do the podcast. Because it’s fun, and hopefully entertaining. We enjoyed writing the book of the same name and think it holds up quite nicely as a worthwhile addition to any film aficionado’s library, but the podcast is something different entirely. Stuff like this is why. Schnell un blitzenberg!

I’ll never claim to not be shameless when I need to be. So I will now be shameless. Behold! My book, co-authored with Jim McDevitt, was released in April. If you have yet to get a copy, do take a look. If you have yet to tell a friend about it, please do so. If you have a film lover in your family or circle of friends, please consider it as a Christmas present. You can get it through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other fine retailers. Your support is appreciated. While you’re at it, please look at our podcast of the same name. If you have not subscribed (it’s free), please do so. If you have not told your friends about it, please do…

If you’re following the Alfred Hitchcock podcast I do with Jim McDevitt (and if you’re not, why not?), take a stroll over to the official blog of the Year of Hitchcock podcast and cast a vote in our new poll. If you’re not listening, now is a GREAT time to start. Jim and I will be sitting down this Saturday for a marathon recording session, during which we will discuss classics such as Rebecca, Suspicion, Shadow of a Doubt and Notorious for future episodes of the show. Feel free to leave us questions right here on this blog or on Facebook. We’ll read them on the air!

In case you aren’t aware, I co-host and produce a weekly podcast devoted to the films of Alfred Hitchcock. It’s a fun, more casual extension of the book I co-authored with my friend Jim McDevitt, A Year of Hitchcock: 52 Weeks with the Master of Suspense. For this week’s episode (mp3 format) we tried something a little different. Instead of discussing one of Hitchcock’s films, we took a listener question and used that as a launching point to just … well, talk. It was an enjoyable change of pace and we hope people like it, because if they do, we’ll be doing more like this. After spending so many days of my life on the “Year of Hitchcock” project, it was great to just talk…

When Jim and I set out in late 2005 to watch every Hitchcock film in a year and write about them all, we didn’t give much thought to whether it had been done before. It just seemed like an exciting project to try, so we did it — an early and incomplete draft ran as a series of popular weekly features on DVDinmyPants.com before we pulled it offline to concentrate on the book — and it was a lot of work, and we persevered, and it became a book. A happy ending to our story. It wasn’t until much later that we realized others had later attempted to do the same. Seeing how those projects panned out is always interesting. We recently came across A Year…
