A Year of Hitchcock

Five years ago…

Jim McDevitt, my friend and coauthor of A Year of Hitchcock, just sent me this email: Last night I stumbled across some old MySpace blogs I had written back in 2006-7. On Feb. 24, 2007, I noted that I had finished writing my part of A Year of Hitchcock. If I recall correctly, you finished your part a few days later. Hard to believe it’s been five years. Five years. It really is hard to believe. Things have felt like a whirlwind since. A Year of Hitchcock was my first published book, the culmination of a lifelong dream, and remains…
Year of Hitchcock softcover = RELEASED

Year of Hitchcock softcover = RELEASED

I know, I know, you're probably as sick of hearing about this book as I am of posting about it! But the long-awaited softcover edition of the book I coauthored with Jim McDevitt is finally out and ready for purchase. If you passed on the hardcover -- and no hard feelings if you did, because it wasn't cheap -- this is for you. It comes in at under 20 clams. Nice price for a nice book by some nice guys, yeah? So check it out and I'll finally shut up about it. Not about my other projects, mind you. But…
The Year of Hitchcock podcast is back!

The Year of Hitchcock podcast is back!

After a long, fatigue-driven hiatus, Jim McDevitt and I finally got back behind the microphone two weekends ago and recorded all-new episodes of The Year of Hitchcock Podcast. We're excited to say that we recorded enough episodes to release them every two weeks for the next few months. We'll be discussing landmark films like Vertigo, The Birds, Psycho, and The Man Who Knew Too Much during this stretch of episodes. We initially began doing the podcast as a weekly companion to our book, A Year of Hitchcock (which will soon be available in softcover at a much lower price). Whereas…

WRITING: Some excellent blogs and resources

In a previous post I mentioned a few blogs and resources you should consider following if you're interested not just in the craft of writing, but getting paid for it. 'Cause doing something you love is nice, but getting paid for it is even nicer. Well, here are a few more. The Swivet is a mixed bag of odds and ends, but it always returns to writing. It first caught my attention with an excellent piece about self promotion that all aspiring writers ought to read, ESPECIALLY if you're about to be or have just been published. Plenty of good…
A Year of Hitchcock coming to paperback

A Year of Hitchcock coming to paperback

Wasn't sure when I could safely announce this, but since our publisher has done so I guess that means I can do so, too. This fall, A Year of Hitchcock: 52 Weeks with the Master of Suspense, is coming to paperback! Our publisher, Scarecrow Press, is listing it on their website with an October 28 release date and, most exciting of all, a $19.95 price point. That's a damn nice price, and one likely to be even nicer once it hits online retailers like Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Even better, our editor informs us this edition will be targeting…
