Many years back, I wanted to explore the idea of writing a bunch of different comic stories in a bunch of different styles with a bunch of different artists. The result was two comic anthologies, Pitched! and Pitched! Vol. 2. Across those two anthologies, a large array of talented collaborators and I did stories in varied genres, written and drawn in varied styles.
It was a fantastic exercise and I’m forever grateful that so many talented people were willing to take the ride with me.
One of those stories was “Some Time with the Family,” a tongue-in-cheek horror tale inspired by classic EC Comics like “Tales From the Crypt” (which is more widely known thanks to the HBO series it inspired). Drawn by Logan Reilly, with inks by James Pipik and greytones and lettering by John Mietus, it ended u being a favorite of mine.
Happily, I just discovered that Logan has shared the story in full on his website. It’s just 8 pages, so it’s fast read.
Go here and enjoy!
PS – A third anthology was planned and was underway, but varied factors — you know, life — got in the way, and I never saw it through to completion. This breaks my heart, as there are several finished stories that exist only my hard drive, never seen by anyone except me and the artists. I hope to one day collect ALL of my comic work together in one volume, including these unpublished stories, so that they can finally be put into the world.
