Is It Easy To Move Abroad For Your Job?

Contributed Post

This year, hundreds of thousands of people will be graduating from colleges and universities across the world. Where will these people spend their careers? Probably not as close to their homes as you might imagine. Many will travel half a world away to pursue their dream careers. Others will be headhunted by international companies, desperate for the latest talent. Many more will be transferred to an office internationally, almost as soon as they take on their first job.

Why is this? Well, it could be that the world economy is now truly global. This never used to be the case and in the past companies weren’t so spread out. You can see this, based on the reaction of Brexit. Politicians and businesspeople on both sides are incredibly worried. Mainly because this isn’t how the economy should function. Brexit will close off part of the economy and could leave to more separation on the global market. We shall see. However, if you think that moving across the world for your career, is easy, you should think again. Particularly, if you do not have the support of a company in that region.

Independent International Career Pursuits

I have seen so many posts where people have claimed it’s simple to become a travel writer or a holiday rep. A holiday rep spends their life in a beautiful destination, showing tourists around and catering to their needs. If you think that job is easy to obtain, you don’t understand the way the world works. Your main problem with getting into a new country for work will be gaining citizenship. Or, at the very least a work visa. Neither or which are easy to obtain. It’s not just a matter of taking the test either. You need to be granted permission to even apply. If you don’t already have a permanent job position setup in that country, you’re going to struggle. So, if you are planning to move, I recommend job hunting first. This gives you a far better shot at relocation.

Some Countries Are More Difficult Than Others

Yes, it’s true. Some countries are far more lenient about who they let in while others have tight controls. Australia and America are some of the most difficult countries to legally immigrate to. If you’re heading to Australia, your application is famously decided on a point based system. What can you offer your country, what problems might you bring? Meanwhile, America is incredibly strict about letting anyone in. Other countries like Canada are far more accepting. You can click here for Canada citizenship test. You’ll see that some of the questions are rather easy.

Is It Worth It?

This is a question that is going to have a unique answer for each individual. If you’re moving outside of your region, you’ll spend a couple of years at least, securing a visa. Unless you already have a job waiting over there. Even then, it can take some time. That said, if it’s always been your dream to live in a certain country, don’t let these restrictions stop you. With determination and an excellent career plan, you can work wherever you want.
