You give over your phone number, your email address, your date of birth, and your location – although a lot of these sites are secure – hackers are very good at what they do, and when successful, they can break in and steal individuals valuable information.

There can be some very nasty people out there that feel brave because they are able to hide their identity online, and this can also make them very dangerous as they may not feel as though they have a lot to lose. Internet crimes go on all around the world. They come in all different forms, from a few negative comments here and there, to stalking and bullying someone every single day. You know that a site is safe when there is a small green padlock on the left of the web address, along with the words ‘Secure’. This means you don’t have to worry. Some sites don’t have that but are still okay to visit too, but to be on the safe side – if you’re not sure, don’t do it. The same rule applies to links that are sent to you, as more often than not, these are viruses or hackers trying to trick you. So never click on a link that someone sends you when you don’t know them.
These are the most common ways to ensure your safety online, so make sure you apply these to your life, as well as your kids if you have any. If something doesn’t feel right, there is probably something wrong.
