So you might remember that I wrote a comic anthology, which I self-published last year and which you can buy here (hint, hint). Well, I’m pleased to say that work is progressing on a second anthology of comic stories, some with new artists and some with folks you saw in the first volume. The stories will be all-new (save for one that will include some familiar faces), and will once again span multiple genres. We’ll have Buck Rogers-influenced space opera, Gothic horror in the spirit of classic EC Comics, a Lovecraftian morality play, and a crime story, among others. I am looking for at least one more artist, though, someone who can do a smooth cartoony style for a tongue-in-cheek Frank Miller pastiche. Someone who…

For six weeks I’ve been sitting on the finished first draft of a dystopian science fiction novel. I had a goal of finishing it by last New Year’s Eve, met the goal, and then set it aside. The idea was to take a break so that when I returned to it for rewrites, I’d be doing so with fresh eyes and renewed energy for the project. And right now, I’m chomping at the bit for a return. I’m not sure why, exactly. I have a lot of work to do on the second draft. A LOT of work. It’s hard to believe it’s been 15 years since I first did this little tape. It was the summer of 1994. I had just gotten my trust TASCAM Porta 7, a four-track tape recorder that allowed talented people record demos and such, and allowed people like me to ruin the definition of “music.” Which is exactly what I did for the last few months of 1994, the time period from which this “music” springs*. I “sampled” (read: stole) chunks of music from elsewhere, slowed it down or played it backwards, laid other stuff on top of it, and generally just played around with things. Also recorded some noisy nonsense. And so on. Then, I made tapes. Remember cassingles? I grabbed every last one I owned,…

I’ll never claim to not be shameless when I need to be. So I will now be shameless. Behold! My book, co-authored with Jim McDevitt, was released in April. If you have yet to get a copy, do take a look. If you have yet to tell a friend about it, please do so. If you have a film lover in your family or circle of friends, please consider it as a Christmas present. You can get it through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other fine retailers. Your support is appreciated. While you’re at it, please look at our podcast of the same name. If you have not subscribed (it’s free), please do so. If you have not told your friends about it, please do…

Following up my first two photography posts (this one and this one), here are a few more photos I snapped during various misadventures. I don’t fancy myself a photographer (though I have at times been paid to do it in the course of doing my day job), just another schmuck who likes taking pictures. I took this one at the Met in New York City. Obviously I can’t take credit for the beautiful piece of art. I ended up using the photo on a record cover. This one was taken … I don’t remember, actually. I think at a Little League game. This, too, I used on a record cover. And this was taken at Cattus Island Park in Toms River, NJ, a gorgeous waterfront…
