PITCHED 2: Some Time with the Family

We’re getting close to the finish line on the second volume of Pitched, my series of comic anthologies, so I thought I’d throw some more preview art out there. These are the first two pages of a story called “Some Time with the Family,” a horror story (obviously) penciled by Logan Reilly, inked by James Pipik (who did the art on “The End of All Summers” for the first volume of Pitched), and written by yours truly. Despite the art being unfinished, I think it looks quite nice, and so will you: Click image for full-sized Click image for full-sized

PREVIEW: Comic anthology, volume 2

A few weeks back I revealed the first preview page for my upcoming comic anthology, the second volume of Pitched. Well guess what, kids? Here’s another preview for you. Those of you who read “The Bugs Are All Right” in the first one might recognize the characters and artist… Click image for full-sized Click image for full-sized Big thanks to Lee Flowers for coming on board and doing the lettering. He designed that logo, too. I think it looks great. Once again you’re going to see a pretty diverse selection of stories and artists. The two previews I’ve posted so far are from folks who were involved in the first collection. Most of what is still to come will be all new. Hope you enjoy…

Diving into Cerebus for Comic Book Galaxy

When the fine folks at Trouble With Comics asked me to take part in their guest reviewers month, I wasn’t going to say no. I’ve followed parent site Comic Book Galaxy for a lot of years and have always enjoyed the work of Alan David Doane and his collaborators, even when I disagreed with them. So yeah, I was happy to take part. I decided to tackle Cerebus: The Last Day, the final volume in independent creator Dave Sim’s legendary and controversial, 300-issue epic, because it would give me a chance to do commentary I’d be interested in writing. You can read my thoughts here (second item down as of the date of this posting). If you’re unfamiliar with Cerebus, this review isn’t going to…

FIRST GLIMPSE! Next self-published comic is in progress

Last month I announced that work on the second volume of my self-published comic anthologies was underway. I’m happy to bring you a bit of a tease: the opening page of a story done with Rick Lundeen called Voice of the Universe. We’re quite proud of it. Take a look: Click image for full-sized As with the first volume, I’ll be penning a diverse collection of stories in multiple genres and multiple styles, all of them brought to life by a talented array of artists. Some artists from the first will be returning, and a number of new names will also be taking part. It will be very exciting to bring this all together again and I look forward to previewing more stuff in the…

Comic anthology Vol. 2 is underway

Pitched Vol 1

So you might remember that I wrote a comic anthology, which I self-published last year and which you can buy here (hint, hint). Well, I’m pleased to say that work is progressing on a second anthology of comic stories, some with new artists and some with folks you saw in the first volume. The stories will be all-new (save for one that will include some familiar faces), and will once again span multiple genres. We’ll have Buck Rogers-influenced space opera, Gothic horror in the spirit of classic EC Comics, a Lovecraftian morality play, and a crime story, among others. I am looking for at least one more artist, though, someone who can do a smooth cartoony style for a tongue-in-cheek Frank Miller pastiche. Someone who…
