WRITING: Some excellent blogs and resources

In a previous post I mentioned a few blogs and resources you should consider following if you’re interested not just in the craft of writing, but getting paid for it. ‘Cause doing something you love is nice, but getting paid for it is even nicer. Well, here are a few more. The Swivet is a mixed bag of odds and ends, but it always returns to writing. It first caught my attention with an excellent piece about self promotion that all aspiring writers ought to read, ESPECIALLY if you’re about to be or have just been published. Plenty of good advice in this blog. It also frequently returns to oft-asked questions such as how long your novel should be. It’s largely all about promoting itself,…

The Hitchcock podcast returns!

Hey, remember a little something called the Year of Hitchcock Podcast? Well, it’s back. Technical difficulties and life issues forced a break, but it’s back and ready to roll. We’ll be airing roughly every other week for the time being — if there are blips in the schedule, there are blips in the schedule — and will at the very least clear out the shows we already have recorded (14 in all). From there? We’ll see. So for now go subscribe, fire it up on iTunes, tell some friends, spread the word, yada yada yada. Or don’t. I don’t care either way. No skin off mine.

Ueten ven hein! Schnell un blitzenberg!

Okay, I’ve got to link to this week’s episode of the Year of Hitchcock podcast, if only because I cracked myself up while editing it. The faux German shtick in the first few minutes of the Lifeboat episode were a bit of unexpected stupidity that had me howling when I listened to it a few weeks after recording. I had completely forgotten I did that. Moments like this are the reason why we do the podcast. Because it’s fun, and hopefully entertaining. We enjoyed writing the book of the same name and think it holds up quite nicely as a worthwhile addition to any film aficionado’s library, but the podcast is something different entirely. Stuff like this is why. Schnell un blitzenberg!

Poll question for Hitchcock podcast

If you’re following the Alfred Hitchcock podcast I do with Jim McDevitt (and if you’re not, why not?), take a stroll over to the official blog of the Year of Hitchcock podcast and cast a vote in our new poll. If you’re not listening, now is a GREAT time to start. Jim and I will be sitting down this Saturday for a marathon recording session, during which we will discuss classics such as Rebecca, Suspicion, Shadow of a Doubt and Notorious for future episodes of the show. Feel free to leave us questions right here on this blog or on Facebook. We’ll read them on the air!
