Will I get a copy of the book next week?

On April 28, A Year of Hitchcock: 52 Weeks with the Master of Suspense, the book I co-authored with Jim McDevitt, comes out.

I have not yet seen a copy of it (though apparently it has been in the hands of at least one reviewer). Will I get a copy of it next week, prior to publication? I do not know. I also ordered a copy from Amazon – yes, I ordered a copy of my own book. Wouldn’t you?

I’d like to get my copy so I can stick it on the shelf and pretend it serves as some degree of closure or something. It’s been very hard to throw myself fully into new projects when there remain niggling little things to do on this one. Maybe soon.

EDIT: And like clockwork, less than 48 hours after this post my copies arrived. And they’re beautiful. Truly top quality work. I quite pleased with the work the folks at Scarecrow Press and their parent company, Rowman & Littlefield, did on this book. It looks wonderful.

Jim is throwing a release party. I’d like to attend, but I have a prior engagement the night before, so it’s unlikely I’ll make it. (He’s a little over two hours from me.) Specifically, I’m going to see Mogwai in Philly. That will kick ass.

Besides, what is there to celebrate? I feel like the high points have already come and gone. Wrote the book, yay! Got a contract, yay! Turned in the final manuscript, yay! At this point, the actual release is sort of anti-climactic. Which isn’t to say I’m not happy about it — I am, very much so — just that I’m like, what’s next?

But still, I hope to make it. It will be good to toast the release and celebrate the culmination of our hard work. Years of it. Regardless of my desire to focus on the next thing, this is worth celebrating. So if I am not exhausted, I will go.

This blog post is more pointless than usual.

You’re welcome to just head an hour north and crash at my place after your show. That way you can make the party with much less driving.
